Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that comes from India.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF YOGA?

Yoga helps you to live your life with more easiness: you learn how to relax, you learn how to improve where improvement can be done and you learn not to give up too easily. With yoga you bring yourself physical and mental harmony.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE WHEN PRACTICING YOGA?

In Hatha yoga class we practice all kind of asanas (yoga postures). Breathing properly during these asanas help us adapt physically and emotionally to the pose. Yoga is the only sport that brings you energy instead of costing energy, you will feel energetic afterwards and calm and steady.

IS YOGA A RELIGION?

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice with its roots in India.

IS YOGA A SPORT?

Yoga practice can be seen as a non-competitive sport. However, there is one big difference: with yoga you gain energy instead of losing it.

I AM A MAN. CAN I PRACTICE YOGA?

Yoga is suitable to men as well as to woman or even children.

I AM PREGNANT. CAN I PRACTICE YOGA?

Yoga can be very beneficial for pregnant women. It helps you breathe and relax, and it calms body and mind. It also helps you to prepare your body. You can join a regular yoga class until the 3rd month. After that a special pregnancy class will suit you best.

AM I TOO OLD TO PRACTICE YOGA?

There is no age limit to practicing yoga. 
It will even help you feel better, stay more flexible and build up strength physically and mentally.

AM I FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO PRACTICE YOGA?


While practicing yoga you will work on your physical flexibility but also on the flexibility of your mind.

IS IT TRUE WE SLEEP IN YOGA CLASS?

In yoga we use Shavasana for deep relaxation. This is also called the yoga sleep, however, it is not a sleep as we know it when we go to bed. It is deep, conscious relaxation.

SHOULD I DRINK DURING YOGA CLASS?

It is not necessary to drink during yoga class. You may bring a bottle of water If you are a thirsty person.

SHOULD I EAT BEFORE OR AFTER YOGA CLASS?

The best is not to eat before yoga class or just something light (some fruits) so your body is not busy digesting the food while practicing yoga.

DO I LOSE WEIGHT BY PRACTICING YOGA?

Yoga is a phenomenal way to put you in touch with your body and it can help you to lose weight. However, it has to be seen more like a healthy way of life. The focus is on your body, mind and spirit. Not just on your physical body.

I HAVE BACK PROBLEMS. CAN I JOIN YOGA?

Many people all over the world have found yoga to relieve back and neck pain.
Yoga helps you increasing strength and flexibility and also it teaches you how to accept and relax.

I AM SERIOUSLY ILL. CAN I PRACTICE YOGA?

Always ask your doctor first. If (s)he thinks yoga might be beneficial you are more than welcome at Granada Spirit.

I AM DEPRESSED. CAN I PRACTICE YOGA?

Yoga helps you to breathe in a proper way, to relax, to build up strength and get more flexibility as well in your body as in your mind.

I SUFFER ANXIETY. WILL YOGA HELP ME TO FEEL MORE HAPPY AND RELAXED?

There are several asanas (yoga poses) that help you when you suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. Also yoga helps you to breathe in a proper way. If your breathing is calm, your mind is calm. If your mind gets calm your muscles start to relax.

I SUFFER FROM HYPERVENTILATION. SHOULD I DO YOGA?

Yoga helps you to breathe in a proper way and therefor might help you to beat your attacks of hyper ventilation. Certain yoga exercises help you to deep breathing and they can also be practiced when you are already hyper ventilating.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MEDITATION?

Meditation differs from other ways of relaxation. While meditating we are relaxed but focused and awake. At the same time we get more attentive and conscious, unlike other relaxation techniques.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING MEDITATION?

It is normal that when you start meditating all kind of thoughts will enter the mind and keep you from feeling relaxed. Also feelings of physical unease (a back that hurts, ´sleeping´ feet etc.) do occur at the beginning to be seated at the same position for a while. After meditating more often you will experience calmness and sensations of peace and happiness. Usually after mediation you feel energetic, calm and steady.

I NEVER PRACTICED GROUP MEDITATION BEFORE. HOW DO I START?

You can start with group meditation any time you like as long as you are open minded.  The group energy will help you to get concentrated and enter into mediation more easy. Meditation does not have any negative effect at your body or mind.

HOW DO I SIT WHEN I MEDITATE?

You must sit on a cushion on the floor with your legs crossed. If, in the beginning, this is hard for you or you are not able to straighten your back in this position, your posture will be adjusted to keep your back straighten. Your teacher will help you with this.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THE MEDITATION HAS FINISHED?

After the silence during meditation, soft music will sound and your teacher´s voice will guide you.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN A THOUGHT ENTERS MY MIND DURING MEDITATION?

The moment you are aware of it, you will just observe the thought and let it go and focus on your breath again.

WHY DO WE CHANT OM AT THE BEGINNING AND AT THE END OF THE YOGA AND MEDITATION CLASS?

OM (or AUM) is the basic sound of the universe. 
It is a mantra or vibration that makes us connect to all living beings, nature and the universe.
By singing it we calm the mind and slow our nervous system.

WHY DO WE PRACTICE YOGA AND MEDITATION BARE FEET?

Shoes and socks are great for a lot of things but not for yoga.
Bare feet you are more stable and you have a better contact with the floor.
You stretch and strengthen your feet better when bare feet.

I DON´T SPEAK SPANISH. CAN I JOIN YOGA AT GRANADA SPIRIT?

At Granada Spirit, yoga classes are thought in Spanish and English. However, your teacher does speak German and Dutch as well so if there is anything not clear she will help you understand it.

IS THERE A CHANGING ROOM AT GRANADA SPIRIT?

Yes, there is a changing room available as well as showers and lockers.

WHAT DO I WEAR DURING YOGA OR MEDITATION CLASS?

Wear comfortable clothes that breathe and keep you warm, like cotton. As you will be sitting still for a while.
